Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, who sees it, and your choices.
Download PDFDraft under legal review. Names and contact details in brackets will be filled in before launch.
In plain English
- We collect only what it takes to run rides safely: your name, contact details, trips, payments, and location while you use the app.
- We never sell your information and do not use it for advertising.
- Location: a driver's live position is visible only to their rider during a trip, and it is erased when the driver goes offline. Nobody can look up where a driver has been.
- No face recognition and no other biometric data.
- Cards are handled by Stripe; we keep only the card type and last 4 digits.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time. A few records are kept as the law or safety requires.
1. Who we are and what this covers
This Privacy Policy explains how [Company Name] ("we," "us") collects, uses and shares personal information when you use the RideWit app and website (the "Services"), as a rider, a driver, or someone applying to drive. It is part of our Terms of Service and our Driver Agreement. It applies to people in the United States.
2. What we collect
| Information | From whom | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Everyone | Name, email, password (stored only in scrambled form), optional phone number, the date you agreed to our terms, that you confirmed you are 18 or older |
| Trips | Riders and drivers | Pickup, stops and destination, times, distance, price, passengers, car-seat note, cancellations and their reasons, the pickup PIN check |
| Location | Riders and drivers | Your phone's location while the app is open, to set pickups and show the trip; a driver's position while online |
| Payments | Riders | Card type, last 4 digits, expiry and a card "fingerprint" from Stripe to stop fraud; the full card number goes only to Stripe |
| Payouts | Drivers | Identity and bank details, collected and held by Stripe; we see only payout status |
| Driver application and documents | Drivers and applicants | Date of birth, ZIP code, car details, driving experience, license, registration and insurance documents, background and driving-record check results |
| Photos | Drivers, sometimes riders | A driver's profile photo and car details shown to riders; a selfie if a rider reports "not my driver"; photos of lost items |
| Ratings, reports and messages | Everyone | Star ratings, compliments, notes to the driver, safety reports, questions about charges, in-app notifications |
| Device and security | Everyone | Alert (push) settings, and the type of device used to sign in, so we can warn you about new sign-ins |
| Launch list | Visitors who join it | Email address, whether you want to ride, drive or both, and a ZIP code if you give one |
We do not collect biometric identifiers, Social Security numbers from riders, or browsing data from other websites, and the app uses no advertising or analytics trackers.
3. How we use it
- To provide rides: match you with a nearby driver, show the route and arrival time, run the pickup check, and keep your trip history.
- To take and make payments: charge riders, pay drivers, handle tips, refunds and disputes.
- For safety: approve drivers and cars, respond to safety reports and "not my driver" reports, verify recording consent, and detect fraud.
- To communicate: trip alerts, receipts, account and security messages, and replies to your questions.
- To tell you we've launched, if you joined the launch list on our website: one email when RideWit opens near you, and nothing else. Your address is never sold or shared, and every email has a one-tap link to leave the list.
- To run and improve the Services, and to meet legal, tax, insurance and regulatory duties.
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
4. Who sees your information
The other person on your trip. Before a driver accepts, a rider learns only how far away the nearest driver is, never who. After acceptance, the rider sees the driver's first name, photo, car, plate, rating and approximate location until the trip ends; afterward, only the name stays in trip history. The driver sees the rider's name, pickup and destination. During a live trip, either can call or text the other through the app.
People you choose. If you use "Share my trip," the people you send the link to can follow the trip until it ends.
Our team. Staff see what they need to run the service, review safety reports and charges, and approve drivers. Access is logged and protected by a second sign-in step.
Service providers who work for us under contract, only for these purposes:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores our database and handles sign-in |
| Vercel | Hosts the app |
| Mapbox | Maps, address search and routes |
| Stripe | Card payments, fraud checks and driver payouts |
| Phone and browser push services (Apple, Google) | Deliver app alerts |
| [Background check provider] | Driver background and driving-record checks |
| [Text message provider, planned] | Phone number confirmation codes |
Legal reasons. We may share information when the law requires it (for example, a valid subpoena), to protect someone's safety in an emergency, with our insurers for a claim, or with regulators who license us. If the business is sold, information may transfer to the new owner under this policy.
5. Location, recordings and biometrics
Location. The app uses your phone's location only while you use it; you can turn location off and type a pickup address instead. A driver's live position is stored only while they are online and is erased the moment they go offline. We keep no history of where a driver has been. Trip addresses stay in the trip record.
In-car recordings. Some drivers record video and audio inside their own car. Recordings are made and kept by the driver's camera, not by the app. The app tells riders before pickup and records only whether and when the rider agreed. Recordings may be requested for a safety report, an accident, a dispute or as the law requires.
No biometrics. We do not use face recognition or collect fingerprints, face geometry, voiceprints or any other biometric identifier. Photos are compared by people, not software.
6. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| A driver's live location | Only while online; erased when they go offline |
| "Not my driver" selfies | Deleted 30 days after the review is decided |
| Trips, payments, ratings, safety reports | Kept for records, tax, insurance and safety; after account deletion, kept without your name |
| Driver license, registration, insurance and application | 5 years after they stop driving, then deleted |
| Account details (name, email, phone, photo) | Until you delete your account; then removed right away |
| Card details | Until you remove the card or delete your account (held by Stripe under its own policy) |
| Launch list | Until we've sent the launch email to your area, or until you leave the list; then deleted |
7. Your choices and rights
- See and correct your name, phone and profile in the app, or ask us for a copy of your information.
- Delete your account in the app (Account → Delete my account), any time except during a trip. Your sign-in, name, phone, alerts and photo are deleted right away; the records in Section 6 are kept without your name.
- Location: turn it off in your phone's settings; you can still type addresses.
- Alerts and texts: turn off push alerts in your phone's settings; reply STOP to marketing texts.
- State privacy rights. Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Virginia or Illinois), you may have the right to know, correct, delete or get a copy of your information, and to opt out of its sale or use for targeted ads. We do neither. To make a request, use Contact us in the app (Account → Contact us) or email [Email]; we will verify it is you and answer within the time the law sets. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
8. Security, children, changes and contact
Security. Information is encrypted in transit, access is limited by role at the database level, staff sign in with a second step, and you are alerted about new sign-ins to your account. No system is perfectly secure; tell us right away if you suspect a problem.
Children. The Services are not for anyone under 18 to hold an account, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. A minor may ride only with an adult account holder.
Changes. If we change this policy in a material way, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
Contact. Contact us in the app (Account → Contact us), or [Company Name], [Address], [Email].
